Portville Quiets Falconer
Brad Holcomb one of several heros
by Harley Hawbaker
Even though they were up 19-6 at half-time, the Panthers had to stage a comeback to defeat Falconer 27-20.
The thriller game had much at stake - the Class C South championship among other things.
Falconer scored with just over 5 minutes to go...and took the lead 20-19.
But Portville took their final drive into the endzone, as Brian Nitsche hit Brad Holcomb for the winning TD
pass. The tandem connected again for the extra point as well. A key play in the drive was a Nitsche completion
to Scott Forrest for 40 yards.
The PCS "D" closed down the Falcons in the final two minutes, winning their Section 6 league. YeeHaa.
The area sports psychics forecasted a title match-up between these two teams during the pre-season...with
Falconer winning.
Well, it didn't happen.
Portville now advances to a home playoff game against Gowanda next Friday night under the lights. This
team has a good chance of becoming the first PCS squad to ever win at the Ralph (formerly Rich Stadium). Two more, baby.
