A Panther Comeback
Big win over Timberwolves
Portville -- Trailing 13-0 in the final quarter of this crucial league game, the PCS gridiron team rallied to tie Cattaraugus-Little
Valley near the end of regulation, then scored the winning touchdown in overtime.
Both teams were 3-1 coming into the contest, and for three quarters the Timberwolves had the upper hand, pounding
the ball for 50 rushing attempts and 229 yards on the ground. But Portville came back with 2 touchdowns in the
final 10 minutes and a TD throw by Brian Nitsche in overtime. Scott Forrest's OT interception sealed the victory.
Portville's Joe Holcomb ran for 99 yards on 24 carries, and Nitsche completed 8 of 12 passes for 129 yards. Brandon
Emley led the defense with 17 tackles and he leads the team in that category for the season. One Panther fan noted that
"Kyle Witherell had the game of his life", and "Jason Mooney did a heckuva job hitting and blocking".
The defense held Tim Miller's 'Wolves to 2 receptions and 20 yards passing. Overall, the team dodged a number of
bullets, overcoming 2 turnovers and a tough opponent.
The win revealed the perseverance and determination of the Panthers, who never gave up despite the overwhelming odds.
It was a great feeling for the celebrating squad to bounce back from last week's crushing defeat at Allegany.
