Panthers Avenge '02 Loss
Red Zone D Stymies Akron 32-29
Portville -- The Panthers remained undefeated with a goal line stand that ended in a failed field goal attempt by Akron
in the final minute.
On a beautiful night for football, the two teams treated the home-opener crowd to a display of potent offenses.
PCS sophomore Joe Holcomb scampered for 123 rushing yards and one touchdown, while junior QB Brian Nitsche completed 7-of-11
passes for 73 yards and a TD to Scott Forrest. Jason Mooney ran one in from 29 yards as well.
Akron's workhorse RB Dan Klonowski carried the ball 37 times for 171 yards and 3 TDs, scoring a fourth one on a reception.
Neither team had a turnover (unlike last year when PCS had ten), and Portville's kicker Chris Payne continued his season perfection
with 3 extra points and a field goal.
The Panther's defense came up big in the end though, led by game-leading tacklers Brandon Emley and Alex Green.
Akron out-distanced Portville in total number of plays (62-36), but it was the Panther's perseverance that solidified
the victory.
