On this past Saturday afternoon in Clymer, the Portville Panther
varsity football team beat the Pirates in the second round of the Class D playoffs, 27-7.
After a scoreless first half, PCS shook off the shackles and got
the ball into the hands of superstar Brandon Yarnes, who scored four TDs with runs of 22, 63, and
4 yards...and snagged a 21-yard pass from Chris Buchanan.
Clymer completed only 8 of 26 passes, and the Panthers were able
to intercept two of them. PCS also overcame 8 penalties and the loss of 2 fumbles. Their "bend, but don't break"
defense was the major factor, as it has been in several contests this season.
The Panthers' secondary was tested all day long, but Clymer could
only produce one touchdown, a pass in the 4th quarter. Portville
now meets Randolph at Ralph Wilson Stadium this Thursday at 5 pm. The town is excited.
