The Hinsdale Bobcats traveled to Portville for a first-round, Class D
football playoff game and were clawed by the Panthers , 44-6. PCS was led by a host of offensive players and, once again,
the defense was outstanding.
The win gave Coach Gary Swetland his 91st coaching victory (91-52-1),
surpassing his mentor, the great Bob Connell (90-45-5), as the winningest coach in PCS history. It also pushed Portville
to a 7-1 record...on their way to becoming one of the best Panthers squads since gridiron was initially played along the Allegheny
River.
Portville gained 326 yards on the ground, led by Luke
Hellwig with 114, which included TD runs of 10 and 38 yards. Luke leads the team with 436 running yards for the
season. Brandon Yarnes scored on 25-yard run and caught a TD pass from Chris
Buchanan, who had 66 yards rushing himself. Buchanan had several awesome moves from the QB position, including
throwing two XP passes to Adam Sullivan and Jeremy Spehar.
Jeremy Reynolds and Trent Unverdorben also
scored rushing touchdowns, and Reynolds and Yarnes continued their dominance as linebackers. Garrett
Childs kicked 2 XPs, raising his total to 10 out of 12 tries on the year.
Unfortunately, Hinsdale lost their starting QB from a hit by Yarnes,
and the whole team needs to be commended, behind the work of sub Brian McNeal and their legendary head coach, Rod Rohl.
Nick Sosnowski, Dave Levia, and the other
O-Linemen continued to protect and open holes, while Casey Caya, Shane Lamberton, and Samer Al-Humadi
stepped up big time on defense.
Portville finished the regular season (and went into this game) averaging
198 yards rushing per game, while holding the opponents to just 82. They have four dudes with over 200 yards in 8 games.
