The PCS Panthers of 1975-76 had the best winning percentage in Portville history,
compiling a 20-1 record. They annihilated almost every team on route to an undefeated regular season of 18-0.
In the
2nd game of the season they broke the school record with 104 points against Ellicottville. Jeff
Nix broke the school record with 46 in the 2nd game against Ellicottville, and he averaged 23.8 per game
for the season. Tom Yanetsko averaged 15.7 points a game, pouring in 31 against Cattaraugus,
while twin Timmy averaged 11, with a high of 23 in the 1st Ellicottville match (see below).
DeLand's
squad had heavy contributions from Fred Caya, Tim Hinman, Dick Larson,
Barry Crocker, Jim Cughan, Tom Rasey, Clark Pytcher, Don "Animal" Sweigert, and "Showtime"
Ray Auman, sporting the best defense in the Big 30. They also averaged almost 76 points per game, taking home
the championship trophies from the Portville Christmas, Otto-Eldred Holiday, and IAABO Tournaments.
After whipping Randolph and Forrestville in the CC playoffs, they fell to Maple
Grove in the finals at Erie Community College.
