Jaekle Golf Classic Winners Disqualified
Linn foursome submit wrong score card
(Special to Panther Profile)
BELFAST, NY -- The fifth annual Moke Jaekle Golf Classic was initially won by Chris Linn, dad Don,
wife Joy, and cousin Jon Giberson until their team was disqualified from the prestigous tournament, when officials discovered
that the team had submitted the wrong score card after the 18th hole.
The grave discrepancy wiped out the 8-under par victory, giving the second-place squad of Herbie Todd, Barry
O'Brien, Jack Keifer, and Lena Lowen the top trophy, despite their +4 score. Apparently, all of the other teams were
too sloshed to be competitive.
"Aard vont kirkegard!" proclaimed Ms. Lowen, who traveled all the way from Sweden to attend the event.
In a post-game interview that night in Room 213 at the Angelica Country Inn, she also noted, "Kinterven un da sen svenderssen,
un ladnen hoorrvster...ha, ha."
The best-ball format attracted a record number of teams from all over Western New York and beyond.
Ironically, the Linn crew signed up just before the tournament, opting out of a Bolivar Club event the day before. The
Linns are members there, and they regularly win tournaments throughout the region.
"This is a first for us," stated a disheartened Chris during the chicken barbecue that followed. "I
gave our official card to Jon for his signature, but apparently, he gave Moke his own score card - one that he was keeping
and scribbling on throughout the course. Moke and the other officials didn't even want to see our official
card. What the hell ya gonna do?
Otherwise, the golf outing was a successful adventure and the weather was great. The trophies were
bigger than ever, and pritnear everyone got a prize or gift. Kim Jobe Edel won the MVP award.
"I just want to thank my daddy, my brothers, and other various men in my life who have been a great inspiration
to me," announced Kim during the lengthy and entertaining awards ceremony, emceed by non-golfer Gary Swetland.
"Wimp would kick my behind from here to Obi if I started playing golf and spending less time with football,"
laughed Swetland, a 5-year veteran of the MJGC. "Anyways, I like driving the beer cart," he added.
