PCS Student Suspended Over Gesture
Claims he was playing with yo-yo
Portville Central School junior Michael Milne was suspended from school for giving a Nazi-like "heil" salute
during a Varsity Club photo shoot. Even though Milne claims that he was just playing with a yo-yo when the picture was
taken, PCS officials decided to keep him out of all school activities for one week until more facts could be gathered.
"We do not condone this type of behavior on school grounds," stated Gerard Christopher, high school principal.
"Mr. Milne failed to show any evidence that he had a yo-yo at the time, so we had to take precautionary measures to protect
the student body and PCS staff from any potential damage caused by the incident," Christopher added.
The photograph was taken by an outside company, who submitted the picture to school officials on Monday. Milne
was immediately called to the main office over the school's P.A. system, generating a collective "Uh-oh" from the other students.
Milne was in the middle of chemistry class when the call was made.
Fellow classmates were left wondering after Milne headed down the hallway towards the office. "We had no idea what
was up," noted sophomore Mary Frair, Milne's lab partner. "Mr. Steinbacher was as clueless as we were. We were
really worried when Mike failed to return before the bell."
By the end of 6th Period, the word was out, and everyone knew about the controversy. Milne's parents were called
in along with a dozen potential witnesses. The PCS rumor mill went into high gear and various theories quickly floated
from room to room. 7th Period study hall in Rooms 212-214 was buzzing with gossip.
Mike has declined all interviews until after a ruling has been made.
